Focalizing is a somatic therapy that enables you to heal yourself through paying attention to and working with, the innate intelligence of the body, bringing about positive change.
What is Focalizing?
All our experiences of life are stored within us, within our bodies, and often we have created strategies to deal with these that get stuck and hold us back from living healthy, present and fulfilled lives. The human body constantly provides signals and communication when a person is suffering and feeling stuck, but often we don’t know how to take notice of them.
Focalizing, gently, and with so much care and acceptance, helps to notice, acknowledge and work with the wisdom of the body in order to help release these 'stuck' ways of being and bring ourselves back into wholeness.
Rather than seeing these signals as distraction or a barrier, Focalizing fosters a mind-body connection that helps reveal the way these natural signals are a roadmap pointing towards what needs to be addressed. With Focalizing, the client is empowered to deeply and compassionately listen to their body and allow it to help them process complex emotions, find their strength and create a stronger inner-connection - mind, body, and soul.
Who is it for?
Focalizing really is for anyone.
It is a gentle yet extremely powerful practice, that can be adapted for everyone.
If you are experiencing a high level of trauma we will first concentrate ourselves on building up your resources and making space before we move into uncovering what the body needs to communicate. We always work at a pace that is right for you.
It can be especially useful if you have done a lot of talking therapy already and feel as if you can’t move on from some of your patterns, even though you’ve explored them in depth. Or you are aware of things you’d like to change in your life but don’t know how to.
What will happen in a session? Sessions are around 50 minutes long.
We start by identifying if you have an ‘intention’ or an issue you’d like to work with in that moment. I will guide you into being more fully present in your body and we’ll go from there – gently noticing what the body needs to communicate.
Although there is a deep felt-sense of the body, no touch is necessary.
While words are very welcome, there is no need to go into depth with words about your specific issue or problem, as we will be listening in to the body.
